Felix Art Fair

Volume Gallery is participating in the 2026 edition of Felix Art Fair in Los Angeles with work by Lia Cook, Arina Erdélyi, Porfirio Gutiérrez, RO/LU, and Terumi Saito.

Lia Cook is renowned as one of the pioneering figures of weaving, rising to prominence in the 1980s through her experimentation with digital weaving and dimensional use of materials. Cook’s ‘Tunnel’ series and ‘Pocket’ pieces explore architectural shapes made by manipulating materials and weave structures, a particularly progressive technique that cemented her position as a leader in the fiber arts movement.

Arina Erdélyi, a descendant of European lacemakers, uses ancestral and historic lace trimmings to impress patterns into clay slabs, which she hand-forms into sculptural miniature vignettes. The black-glazed surfaces and warm light of each lamp evoke intimate interiors and fabric-covered furniture in preserved or abandoned rooms.

Porfirio Gutiérrez’s geometric woven abstractions draw from the visual language of the artist’s Zapotec ancestors, bridging Indigenous knowledge with Modernist principles to demonstrate the ongoing relevance of these innovative motifs. Rendered in natural dyes, his work updates this influential imagery in contemporary form.

RO/LU, founded in 2003 by Matt Olson and Mike Brady, was an “open practice” spanning landscape architecture, sculptural furniture, and more. Working across disciplines with conceptually-driven approaches, their furniture pieces—including homages to artist Scott Burton rendered in humble materials—frequently fall between recognizable categories.

Terumi Saito reimagines the ancient backstrap weaving techniques of Japan by incorporating natural dyes and hand-built ceramics. Her practice honors humanity’s shared heritage (similar techniques were developed around the world) while exploring the intersection of tradition and novelty, preserving timeless art forms through a contemporary lens.
