Volume Gallery is participating in the 2024 edition of Felix Art Fair taking place February 28 – March 3 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles with work by Stephen Burks, Ross Hansen, Sung Jang, and Thaddeus Wolfe.
Taking a variety of forms, Stephen Burks’ Spirit Houses are inspired by global altar traditions. A spiritual intervention into the largely secular world of industrial design, the objects are intended as spiritual spaces for the home, places for veneration and memory.
Ross Hansen is known for his subversive use of industrial production methods to form unique and animated design objects. His recent lighting pieces use muslin set in resin and seem to defy gravity. Hansen embraces the natural qualities and texture of the fabric, which, when lit from behind, emanates a soft, diffuse light.
Sung Jang’s new series of paintings, Shape of Land, draws from the artist’s memories of landscapes he’s traversed. The deep black shapes in Jang’s paintings are textured with sand and allude to the boundaries of rivers and mountains. The minimal pieces are inspired by subjective and imprecise early Korean maps which were amalgamations of regional maps gathered by travelers.
Thaddeus Wolfe is known for his innovative mold-blown glass technique, a one-shot process resulting in singular pieces that are engagingly complex. His geometric and geological vessels highlight the inherent qualities of the glass itself and the interaction of light filtered through colorful layers of material.
Felix, co-founded in 2018 by Dean Valentine, Al Morán, and Mills Morán, is an art fair created with the intention to foster intimate experiences that prioritize conversation, collaboration, and community.
