Volume Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in the 2022 edition of EXPO CHICAGO with a presentation of work by Christy Matson and Jonathan Muecke. Both artists have important museum solo exhibitions opening this Spring—Christy Matson at the Milwaukee Art Museum and Jonathan Muecke at The Art Institute of Chicago.
Christy Matson’s weavings reference the history of Modernism as well as the history of textiles from all over the world. Her painterly explorations of surface and pictorial space reference the concept of the grid as well as historic woven patterns—patterns with rich and varied histories from handlooms to textile factories.
Currents 38: Christy Matson, a solo exhibition including over 40 recent works, recently opened at the Milwaukee Art Museum and will be on view through July 17, 2022.
Jonathan Muecke’s elegant forms are hyper-specific in scale and material. Free from any of the traditional obligations of functionality common to most design practices, Muecke is interested in making unfamiliar and unknowable objects. His idiosyncratic formal choices introduce new forms to our collective visual vocabulary, finding shapes without precedent.
Jonathan Muecke: Objects in Sculpture will be on view at The Art Institute of Chicago from May 26 to Oct 10, 2022.
