Tenure

Volume Gallery is pleased to announce Tenure, a 10-year anniversary show, opening Friday, February 28th, 2020, from 5-8PM at 1709 W Chicago Ave, IL 60622. This group show will feature the work of Tanya Aguiñiga, Ross Hansen, Sung Jang, Ania Jaworska, Krueck + Sexton, Snarkitecture, Christy Matson, Jonathan Muecke, Anders Ruhwald, Sam Stewart, Thaddeus Wolfe, Jennefer Hoffmann, Thomas Leinberger, and Stanley Tigerman.

Over the course of 10 years, Volume Gallery has produced 42 solo exhibitions, 13 group shows, and participated in 16 fairs. There have been over 800 works exhibited, with over 30 works acquired by more than a dozen different museums and institutions all over the world. Beyond the metrics, crucial to the gallery’s history our foundation has been the intimate relationships established with artists, designers, intuitions and patrons. Tenure celebrates these relationships that have provided a unique established place for experimentation and discourse across disciplines.

Established in 2010, the gallery “took over” spaces to create site-specific installations of work by designers and artists commissioned by Volume Gallery. After 2-3 years of this nomadic beginning, an office space was secured, which quickly had its walls knocked down to create the first permanent gallery space. In early 2017 Volume Gallery moved to its current location, helping establish a thriving arts district on Chicago Avenue.

Tenure will feature works that touch on all of the disciplines that Volume Gallery has focused on for the last 10 years: Design, Fiber, Ceramics and Glass. Highlighting some of the best examples that have come from previous shows, as well as new work by designers and artists that continue the spirit and nature of the cutting-edge thinking that drives the work shown in the gallery.

Tenure will be on view through April 11th, 2020.

Volume Gallery has a specific focus on American design, particularly emerging contemporary designers. Founded by design specialists Sam Vinz and Claire Warner, Volume Gallery releases editions, publications, and exhibits that showcase the work of American designers to regional, national, and international audiences. Volume Gallery asks critical questions of what it means to be an American designer in a culture that is rapidly becoming global in scale, while simultaneously examining the American experience. Volume Gallery is derived from a compulsion to provide a platform for emerging American designers to engage with an international audience.
