Volume Gallery is taking over the Andrew Rafacz Gallery to present designer Jonathan Nesci’s show entitled THE NEW. This is the first exhibition, in an ongoing series, from Volume Gallery highlighting American design. THE NEW is Nesci’s first full solo exhibition in the US. The works designed specifically for Volume Gallery represent Nesci’s acute examination of the urban infrastructure.
“Considered objects reveal where we are in our history, our culture and a reaction to our unique individual stories.”
Each piece in THE NEW is born from Nesci’s observations of the world around us and the banal designs that inform our lives in ways many of us never stop to consider—the edge of a curb, the base of a street light, etc. In addition, with these pieces Nesci takes the torch of 20th Century design and carries it into the 21st century, stating, “I am informed by the work that has preceded me and add a building block to the continually changing landscape of product and process”.
The spirit of this design is also translated by the use of industrial materials—concrete and metal. The finish is matte white, to absorb the light and its surroundings; paying homage to the pure minimal forms of Nesci’s work.
