In/Situ

CHICAGO- Volume gallery is pleased to announce its summer exhibition titled IN/SITU opening Friday, June 20th with a reception from 6-8PM at 845 West Washington Blvd, 3rd Fl. Chicago/ IL 60607.

IN/SITU Situated in the original, natural, or existing place or position.

Volume Gallery has a specific focus on American design, particularly emerging contemporary designers. In the past four years, Volume has released editions, publications and exhibits that showcase the work of American designers to regional, national and international audiences. With IN/SITU, Volume brings together their released editions alongside new artists to showcase contemporary environments and create discourse on the current state of American design and studio practice.

The multiple perspectives exhibited in IN/SITU bring focus to the pluralism of contemporary design. The designers represented (Tanya Aguiniga, Matthias Merkel Hess, Sterling Lawrence, Jonathan Muecke, ROLU, Snarkitecture, Thaddeus Wolfe, and new works by Jojo Chuang) in IN/SITU each employ contemporary thought, technology or material in their work. The result is an environment that is both challenging and intuitive, allowing the viewer to engage in “the now” of the domestic landscape and establish directions for its future.

The nature of IN/SITU is to create these existing domicile scenes that are further reinforced by contemporary art by Peter Demos and Russell Tyler. Their work echoes the concepts of pluralism of the design on exhibition – in this case with a unique exploration of material, color, composition, rhythm, proportion and form to culminate in new, non-objective image making.
